Elvis Presley Manager

Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis Presley's Manager, Dies at 87

Parker Managed Presley's Career for Over Two Decades

Overseeing Almost Every Aspect of the Star's Life

Thomas Andrew Parker, known to the world as Colonel Tom Parker, died in 1997 at the age of 87. Parker, who had gambled away most of his money, was Elvis Presley's manager from 1955 to 1977. He oversaw almost every aspect of Presley's life and career, from his music to his finances to his personal relationships.

Parker was born Andreas Cornelis van Kuijk in the Netherlands in 1909. He emigrated to the United States in the 1920s and worked as a carnival barker and music promoter before meeting Presley in 1955. Parker quickly recognized Presley's potential and became his manager. Under Parker's guidance, Presley became one of the most successful singers in history.

Parker's relationship with Presley was complex and often tumultuous. Presley was known to resent Parker's control over his life, but he also relied on Parker's guidance. Parker was a shrewd businessman and helped Presley make millions of dollars. However, he was also accused of exploiting Presley and taking advantage of his naivety.

Despite their differences, Parker and Presley remained together until Presley's death in 1977. Parker continued to manage Presley's estate after his death and died in 1997. He is buried in Graceland, Presley's Memphis mansion.
